VIDEO POKER-CIGAR SMOKE OPTIONAL
What do you get when you cross a slot machine with stud poker? It sounds like the beginning of a joke, but that is a brief description of video poker. With the popularity of computers and the Internet, video poker has become extremely popular, and it couldn't be easier, not only play, but to also sharpen your poker skills.
VIDEO POKER IS NOT JUST A SLOTS MACHINE WITH CARDS
Okay, perhaps comparing video poker to slot machines isn't fair. Playing a slot machine only requires putting in a coin, pulling the handle and hoping for the best. Video poker, on the other hand, requires using skill, strategy, and deciding which cards to hold. The result is a tense excitement.
HOW TO WIN AT VIDEO POKER
You don't have to be a poker expert to play video poker. The video poker screen is laid out neatly with a table of all the winning hands and what each hand pays out. Video Poker differs from regular poker in that in video poker the amount paid out is fixed. The goal in any game of poker is to get the highest paying hand. A royal flush (10, Jack, Queen, King, and Ace of the same suit) has the largest payout. Each game has a payout chart listing what payout you receive for each hand.
HOW TO PLACE BETS IN VIDEO POKER
You can choose how much you bet for each hand. Video poker machines generally give you a choice between using coins valued at $0.25, $0.50, $1, or $5. You then choose the number of coins you want to bet. You are given the option of using up to five coins. So, if you choose a quarter ($0.25) as your value and three (3) as the number of coins, you will bet $0.75.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF VIDEO POKER
There are many types of video poker games. Each type has a different payout. There is Aces & Faces, All American, Bonus Poker, Deuces Wild, Double Bonus Poker, Jacks or Better, Joker's Wild, and the list goes on. Jacks or Better is a good place to start. Once you develop a good strategy, you can try the other games until you find the poker game you like best.
